Here are a few of Target
Transportation's Frequently asked questions about Truck
Freight and Intermodal Shipping Services. If you have any

-
How is my freight moved
from my warehouse to the railroad ramp?
A Dray company will
bring the empty equipment that is to be used for your
shipment. The equipment is loaded and then the Dray Company
brings it to the designated ramp.
- What is a delivery and
pick up dray?
The dray portion of the
Intermodal move is the part handled by the carrier that
brings you the equipment to be loaded or to be unloaded.
- What container sizes are
available?
48’ and 53’.
Also, 20’, 40’, and 45’ container typically move to the West
Coast. Trailers are available in 45’ and 48’ lengths for use
anywhere in the United States.
-
Who determines how the
shipment will be moved?
The
flexibility in transit time allows us to suggest either rail
or truck, but you, the shipper ultimately decides.
- What are the advantages
of using rail service over truck service and vice versa?
Truck service
is quicker, but more expensive. Rail service offers more
competitive prices, with longer transit time. Rail service
is competitive in longer haul moves.
- Do I need a certain size,
weight, or container amount to use Target transportation’s
services?
You can call
us to handle one shipment or a 100. We handle LTL and TL.
-
How will I know when the
shipment has arrived? Can I trace them?
Our shipments
are traced daily and reports are available upon request.
Please contact our office to set that up. Rail shipments can
also be traced on our
website.
- What is the average
transit time?
Transit time
varies depending on the distance between origin and
destination. Shipments going from the east coast to the west
coast will take an average of 7-9 days.
